We write for Nieman reports on assassinations in Africa

How are we helping to piece these stories together?

This week I published a piece in Nieman Reports on assassination reporting in Africa. As well as a host of experts and advice on how to do this sort of work safely, it features some of the stories that Alibi Investigations has done, including the second series of our podcast, Laduma High.

Nieman Reports is based at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University. It is a quarterly journal on journalism issues which has been in publication for more than 60 years. I was lucky enough to go to the foundation and collaborate with the people there when I was a Visiting Nieman Fellow in 2016.

In the piece, the board chair of Alibi Investigations, Ruona J. Meyer says on how to keep journalists safe, β€œIt is also about creating journalism practices that tangibly prioritise the people, rather than profit. Press freedom needs to adapt and be as tactical and relentless as its attackers.” It is a fantastic quote and true to the integrity that she keeps as a journalist.
